Community Speed Watch

One of the concerns we hear the most in the village, and unfortunately witness all too often is speeding.

Due to our location between two main trunk roads, the A120 and A12 we suffer a high volume of traffic moving between the two.

You will have no doubt already seen our commitment to speed reduction through the Speed Indicator Device (SID) we have in place. This has recently been moved from the Boars Tye entrance to the Western Road entrance and will continue to be circulated around each entrance throughout the coming months.

To take this a step further, Silver End Parish Council along with Essex Fire Service and Essex Police are restarting the Community Speed Watch initiative, this allows trained village volunteers to monitor speed themselves with fully calibrated speed detection equipment. Backed up by Essex Police who coordinate the notifications to offenders as well as visits where necessary, although no prosecutions are able to be brought without police officers present, the data/intelligence provided is extremely valuable. Data like this is required to support our requests for traffic calming and 20mph zones for example.
